MORE than 40 parents of Doune Primary School pupils were treated to a five-star culinary feast prepared by world famous Chef Albert Roux.

Mr Roux and his team from Cromlix prepared the three-course meal on September 15 as part of the pioneering Chefs Adopt a School initiative. The national charity forms the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and Service which enhances young people’s understanding of food by teaching culinary skills, growing produce and explaining the importance of healthy eating.

This is the third consecutive year that pupils at Doune Primary School have benefited from receiving regular hands-on demonstrations from the Chez Roux team at Cromlix, including cookery lessons and visits to the hotel’s kitchen garden where fresh produce is grown.

Commenting on the programme, Mr Roux said: “We are very pleased to continue our commitment to inspiring the next generation of culinary talent and it is great to make this investment in the young people who live near Cromlix.

“The meal not only provided parents with more detail about the initiative and insight into what the children have been learning, but also the chance to sample some great produce.

“We are extremely proud to be working closely with Doune Primary School and I look forward to continuing this relationship.”

Lyndsay Macnair, Head Teacher at Doune Primary School, added:  “We are extremely happy to have formed this partnership with the team from Chez Roux at Cromlix.  Through hands on workshops led at the school and hotel, the children have had the opportunity to experiment, enhance skills and learn about flavours and produce.

“It’s fantastic that the parents have also had the opportunity to share this experience with their children.”

Mr Roux is head of the famous cooking dynasty behind renowned London restaurant Le Gavroche, the first restaurant in the UK to be awarded three Michelin Stars.
