THE second Stirling Festival of Cycling will take place at Kings Park from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, August 7.

The event is a celebration of cycling organised by Stirling Cycle Hub, an active travel project managed by local charity Forth Environment Link (FEL) and funded by Transport Scotland.

The festival is a partnership project between Stirling Cycle Hub and Stirling Council and aims to encourage everyday journeys by bike by offering a packed programme including great social rides, free Dr Bike sessions, lots of stalls and a range of family-friendly activities to choose from.

It endeavours to encourage everyday journeys by bike by offering something for everyone.

Whether you’re a regular cyclist, an occasional commuter or simply someone who wants to check out different bikes and find out more about cycling in general – there will be something for you.

Graham McQueen, from the Stirling Cycle Hub said: "Following the success of last year’s first Festival of Cycling we have put together a programme that brings cycling fun for everyone to Stirling’s Kings Park.

"We are particularly pleased that the Stirling Festival of Cycling is once again happening in partnership with both Stirling Council and the Pedal for Parkinson’s charity bike ride.

"This event offers cyclists of different abilities a chance to go on a great bike ride on Sunday 7th of August for a great cause."

Pedal for Parkinson’s run their charity ride for the third time in Stirling this year.

Julia Selby, Pedal for Parkinson’s, said: "We are delighted to be working alongside the Cycle Hub with their Stirling Festival of cycling, not only does this boost our recruitment and fundraising for the event, but it is such a great atmosphere on the day. We will have around 250 cyclist taking on the event with three different routes to choose from, we are hoping to raise around £30,000 to go towards helping those affected by Parkinson’s in Scotland."

Commenting on the event, Clara Walker, Forth Environment Link's executive director, said: "We hope the festival as well as the Pedal for Parkinson’s event will inspire people to get out on their bikes, whether for fun, for health or for travel.

"We want cycling to be fun and accessible to everyone. Events like these raise the profile of cycling locally and help improve opportunities for more people to participate.

Stirling Festival of Cycling is encouraging people to join in the different activities during the event – cyclists and would-be cyclists should come along and learn more about what is happening with bikes in Stirling and the Forth Valley.
